The tutorial is open globally to those working with New Zealand wine, in the areas of sommelier, wine retail, wine education and wine journalism (NB it is not open to wine distributors, winemakers and viticulture roles). The determining force for selection is the applicant’s potential and desire to make a difference; to contribute meaningfully to a fruitful future for the New Zealand wine industry.
There are just twelve places offered but you don’t need to be an expert or at the peak of your career to apply. We are looking for wine people with passion and enthusiasm, who want to develop their knowledge, palates and communication skills, in order to become ambassadors for New Zealand wine. By ambassador, what we mean is, going about your work with an extra degree of knowledge and confidence; making great decisions about New Zealand wine.
The tutorial is a residential event held over two and a half days and three nights. All places are fully paid, however travelling to and from Blenheim, New Zealand is the only cost incurred by the participants.
For those wishing to apply, the application process appears below. The selection process is conducted by a panel of principals from The Family of Twelve.
At the conclusion of the tutorial, one of the twelve participants will receive the ‘The Family of Twelve Award’ for the tutorial’s standout communicator. To establish ‘The Family of Twelve Award’, all participants will be appraised on both the strength and persuasion of their communication and on their tasting ability. The winner will receive a dozen magnums of the Family’s hero wines for their cellar.
Applications open 1st November 2019 and close 17th January 2020
