Reflections on Succession, by Barbara Lawson

14. 12. 2014

It happens to all in business, especially one self-created; who is going to carry on the idea/dream/creation into the future? Options are many and varied…..sell out……family succession……partial buyout…..and so on. In the New Zealand Wine industry, young as it is, there are examples of family succession, especially in the Family of Twelve, Pegasus Bay and Kumeu River, to name two.

My time to decide….my solution has been within the existing structure of Lawson’s Dry Hills. After considerable time, many meetings and much correspondence, an existing shareholder has taken the majority shareholding with the remainder being between the present General Manager, Chief Winemaker and Marketing Manager. This has to be the “dream team” to carry forward the essential framework that Ross and I created.

Satisfaction all around and I’m sure he’d be in favour!!
