Established in 1985 by Robert Hill-Smith, Nautilus is a small, family-owned winery. It is one of the few wineries in the area to remain under the same ownership for over 30 vintages. This consistency has allowed the team the time and stability to understand and harness the different sub-regional flavours found in this cool climate region. The Nautilus shell on the label is a perfect mathematical spiral; beautiful, natural, almost ethereal. It is used as an inspiration to craft wines of balance, harmony and proportion.
The team combine state-of-the-art facilities with traditional winemaking and it’s their Pinot Noir and Sauvignon Blanc that wow drinkers and judges time and again. Winemaker and General Manager Clive Jones has overseen the Pinot Noir programme, including the planting of premium Dijon clones and the design of a dedicated Pinot Noir winery. Clive then designed the White Wine Cellar, responsible for producing award winning Chardonnay, as well as Marlborough’s flagship Sauvignon Blanc.www.nautilusestate.com
