In 1978 Tim and Judy Finn risked everything to plant grapes on a hillside in Upper Moutere, just out of Nelson. They held down six jobs to pay four mortgages and dedicated themselves to the production of fine, elegant wine. Wine with finesse.
These days the pair are joined by winemaker Todd Stevens and viticulturist Richard Flatman and a team who believe their primary task is to grow grapes which express this special site, to take the essence of that fruit and preserve it as wine. On the way they may fine-tune the balance and complexity in a number of ways but the aim is always to allow the site to speak. In working this close to nature there will sometimes be heartache and occasionally celebration; each year there is new promise, but always there is the excitement of discovery.
